Hi, Peter, I'm not sure why you didn't get an activation email, I'll look in
to it shortly. We've been making some configuration changes to sendmail to
support our mailing list manager, and may have inadvertently caused a
problem for the portal.
I'm Cc:'ing this to the dev mailing list, but I'll try to answer all of your
questions here:
1) TACACS/RADIUS is in the plan, probably appearing "late summer".
2) Configuration restore is not currently supported, though probably will be
within the next few months. This is a feature whose value is disputed
because many engineers are reluctant to replace an entire configuration en
mass due to the risk of overwriting a change on the device that hasn't been
backed up yet. Generally a configuration "diff" yeilds the list of relevant
changes which can then be applied manually to the device.
3) We're not happy with the existing telnet tool, and due to licensing
issues will be removing it in future versions of ZipTie. In the last
release we added the ability to configure and launch external tools from the
context menu of a device. See the Preferences under the Window menu,
"External Launch Commands". For the command you can supply a fully
qualified path to an executable (Putty in this case), and then configure
optional parameters to be passed to it using what we call "Display Strings"
(see here http://wiki.ziptie.org/bin/view/Main/HowtoUseDisplayStrings).
Using this it is relatively simple to launch Putty to connect to a device
which is a much better Telnet/SSH client than the Java-based one we've
embedded.
4) The ZipTie Server is under development, which is why that
HowtoBuildServer is under the Developer HOWTOs. It is in a faily primal
state and isn't very useful except for us developers who are trying to flesh
it out and get it stable. We're pushing hard to have a full client/server
version of ZipTie in the late July/early August timeframe. It has been
probably the most requested feature we've gotten. To answer your other
question, "Ant" is a tool for building Java-based projects in the same way
that "make" is used to build C/C++ projects. It is from the Apache
Foundation (http://ant.apache.org/).
If you have any other questions or need help with ZipTie, feel free to come
into the IRC channel (irc.ziptie.org port 6667) and chat, post in the online
forums (your account appears to be active), or join the user's mailing list.
Regards,
-Brett
